Hello fellow art lovers!:) I am so excited to blog I have been published in the July 2011 issue of Doll Collector Magazine!. The crazy thing about this is that I had no idea this was going to happen! My mother in law (fellow doll artist) was browsing the magazine and happened to see my name and doll!!( Change of Heart) I was ecstatic when she told me! I don't know how you feel but, to me being recognized for hard work and love of the craft is much more satisfying then even selling my work. To me when I am working non stop on something it's nice to know someone out there appreciates it! Especially since until about a year ago this was strictly a hobby for me and something I just thoroughly enjoyed doing. In case you have not oggled over the dolls in this issue yet... get your copy here!! click here! Thanks for everyones support! Here are a couple pictures of the article!!:) 3 Comments Serafina-Mermaid 05/04/2011
Hello:) Gosh it's been about a month since I have sculpted anything! I have been busy in the "real world" as I like to say! lol. With that said, once I started this peice I could not stop!! I have been testing out new methods for fins and wings. Serafina's fins are my favorite!!! so this technique will continue. It's harder then one might think to make "pretty" wings or fins. Most of mine turn up fake looking and plastic. I love a bit of realism in my sculptures and these fit that for me! 5 years ago I started sculpting. I studied tutorials, became addicted to searching for new artist of OOAK's, got every supply that "they" told me to get, and figured out how to do things through trial and error. Not untill now have I realized that being a One Of A Kind artist means you create your own look. You dont have to use Lamb hair for their hair. You dont have to use Fantasy flim for beautiful wings. You dont have to buy glass eyes. You dont have to use one brand of polymer clay. Their is no law thats says you have to use these things to make a good or professtional OOAK sculpture. In fact that is the thing that I admire is my favortie Artist! They think outside the box. They come up with something no one would think of to use and all of the sudden that is the "new" way it should be done! Dont get me wrong , without these turorials and supply list I would not be where I am today with this. I suppose you have to learn the rules before you break them;) Normally my best ideas come from times when I need something I dont have and figure it out with the stuff I already do have. I am not sure why I felt the need to blurt all of this out but, I did ....hahah and with that said I leave you with this quote my friend dubbed as "me" lol oh yes and a link to the reason I blogged this in the first place. My newest sculpture Serafina!! enjoy!! " Imperfection is Beauty, Madness is Genius, and it's better to be Absolutely Ridiculous than Absolutely Boring!" New. Unique. Quirky. All of these words describe my Carrot-top fairy Celia! She came in standing about 7 inches tall. I Love Love Love. Freckles. My husband, my son, and myself all have them. I find they add personality or maybe even a cute accessory to the skin! So I went into this doll saying she is going to have a ton of them. A few weeks ago I found this bright pretty much orange mohair on eBay...I had to have it. I am sort of scared of bright locks on my dolls. I feel like after I spend hours and hours on a doll... covering them up ,putting dark makeup, or in this case ORANGE hair on them will ruin them. I do feel in this case it adds to her story. Every doll has one:) Full of spunk this girl will be on auction tomorrow! March 31st for 7 days. I did not make a base for her because I felt she would look great sitting on just about anything...a china hutch, bookshelf...wherever ..without anything to obscure the view! I put her in the fairy gallery with a great song called Buttercup that captures her mood very well! I hope you like her!!!!! CLICK HERE to see the gallery!!! She sorta reminds me of the singer PINK. lol always Stefanie Maryanne The Minstrel 03/17/2011
Hello. Happy St. Patrick's Day!! I know most people on this day have art work that displays clovers and leprechauns! Not me..lol Most of my work is inspired by a song or lyric something that I feel when I listen to music. So I thought "hey why not make a fairy playing the harp?" well, I built a harp. That did not turn out very well. Then I made a flute since I play the flute (only fitting right?) but, that did not turn out well either. I then thought GUITAR!! yes yes a guitar!! I first made this sorta big acoustic guitar. It took me all night to design. I put my newly made acoustic in her lap..it covered her whole body. It took me hours to get her stoumach the way I wanted it and to have it covered up was heart breaking. Needless to say I scrapped that! I found this shell in one of my boxes and went from there. I then took some clay and molded it to the shell and made a hole in the center. I took a paint brush and smoothed out the inside. Ii was exactly the right size! So from there I went for it and slowly this no name fairy playing a harp became a guitar playing Minstrel named Maryanne! I spent a lot of time in the details. I hope you like her!!:) CLICK HERE for her gallery! Change of Heart 02/18/2011
Hello everyone!! Today was a Beautiful day here in VA! It inspired me to work on my website and upload pictures of my newest sculpture. Her name is "Change of Heart". She is completely different then all of my other work. She is very cartoon like and not very realistic (something that i strive for in my other works). I love style. I would depict my style as kind of hippie but, trendy maybe a little vintage. So that inspired a brand new collection. "The Vintage Fairy Collection". I will make these fairies to fit that kind of genre! I am excited for them because they are "unique" as a good friend calls them!:) Hopefully you all like them! Check out Change of Heart in her gallery page by clicking the link!! THank you!xoxo Stefanie click here not a blog 02/04/2011
Ok, I don't really have any dolls to blog about right now. My current two pieces are really works in progress except their is not any progress that is happening. Not for a lack of constant thinking of what and how to sculpt it!!! I have had many issue with the so called "valentines day" doll that I have been working on. I have made head after head and decide once I got to the body that the head was not right. so smushhhhh it went...on to another one! my goal was to have this doll on auction for valentines day. So we will see. The other peice is a pin-up that if she turns out well will be entering a contest for a magazine. key word "if"!lol I have already handmade the chair she will be sitting on and, at this moment she is in the same stage of the valentines day doll...only a head. So really this is not a blog but, more of a paragraph asking to wish me luck...and to keep a look out for these " Works in Progress" :) Backed up! 01/14/2011
Alright.... Since my last blog I have made three sculptures!! One piece actually was 4 sculptures all together!! So I guess that makes 6. Needless to say I have been working very hard! Since it is a New Year I have decided to revamp my website....yet again!! I am one of those people who gets bored very quickly with most things. Like one day my husband will come home and I would have rearranged the living room. This happens frequently! Even yestarday I rearranged my studio...maybe in hopes for the new inspiration!LOL. Since it has not even been a year since I started selling my work and have had this website I figure now is the time to change it and fiqure out what I like so down the road I don't have the same dilema! So you get it.:) I hope you like my new site. I feel like it's a bit easier to navigate. Especially through the Gallery area. I also feel like its a bit more me(trendy, sorta retro). I have even made a banner that you can add to your own website if you like and follow my work!! That banner is in the contact page. Instead of doing three separte blog post I am going to post all of my recent work to this one alone. I will put a few of each so you can see them better since I will not be adding them to my 2010 Gallery. My first sculpture of 2011 is in the brand new mermaid gallery!!! Have fun!! I hope you like all of my hard work!!! Luna , Raggamuffin, and The Three Blind mice were commission peices. Transformation will be on Auction in the next coming weeks! If interested in her use the contact forum!!! Always, Stefanie Online Yule Gallery 12/07/2010

The magazine is really awesome. you can browse around the website!Take this link to see what I am talking about!!...LINK Little ~Em~ 11/15/2010
Little Em is a commissioned peice! She is soooo tiny!! only 5 inches tall! She was extremely hard to sculpt mostly the hands and feet were ...because my big fingers kept getting in the way!:) I love to sculpt fairys that look like somthing you would actually see in the woods(if they were real) small, natural, delicate. Her wings are real butterfly wings and she is covered in dried flowers. She sits in a Hut. The Hut I made from complete scratch starting from a peice of wood , two peices of ceramic and a strong wire. I had some hobbie moss and dried flowers that I used to make it look realistic. oh yes and some sparkles too!!:) I had fun taking pictures of her! Check her out in here photo gallery here!!! Princess and the Pea 11/11/2010
Today I put "The Princess" in the Fairy Tale Gallery!! I Love her!! I have been thinking about the idea for months now but, I wanted her to really be great so..I waited and now finally she is here!!! If you have not heard of this tale I will go ahead and tell you the basics of the Hans Christian Anderson s Version. There was a Prince in search of a Princess. This Prince went around the world looking for the right one. He could not find anything so he went home. During the night there was a storm. During the storm a woman was on the door step of the castle. The mother of the Prince offered her a place to stay for the night and decided to test her to see if she was "The One" (us mothers always have those feelings :)!) So the mother went to dress her bed and put a pea under her mattress and stacked twenty more matresses on top. Surely if she felt the pea she would be a true Princess. The next morning when the woman woke up her back was all bruised up. She went and told the Prince and he said you are "The One" because only a true Princess would feel a pea under twenty mattresses! I love this story because I always can feel the slightest thing under my pillow. Not that I am a princess .....lolololo but, the story is great! I love making these Fairy Tale dolls. I am am in the works of making my next so keep a look out if you enjoy a great story like I do:) check her out here!! |
